Music Dice

Whether you are a student, a private teacher, or a school teacher you know that finding ways to make practicing fun is essential.  I was never a big fan of flash cards when learning musical terms.  Flash cards always felt like work which drained the fun out of it completely.

Every once in awhile in lessons I have a student who loves playing scales and doing other music theory work.  Most of the time the student feels like those things are a burden in which we must get through before we play "songs."  I started using dice recently and there was a very evident change in every students attitude!  No matter what we used them for students were enjoying rolling the dice to see what scale, rhythm, etc. they were to work on.

Please feel free to download, print, color, and create these fun music dice.

Thicker paper seems to work best (cover stock or card stock).  I just use tape when putting them together but there are tabs on the printouts for glue.

Please feel free to contact me with other ideas for dice.  I would love to expand this collection even more.

The 8-sided die with the notes can be flipped either way to have notes above the middle line and below.  Making a few of them is a great way to create a short theme on your instrument!
